How to keep baby away from Christmas tree?

My baby will be 9 months old at Christmas...I LOVE having a huge tree and have a lot of very precious ornaments...the thought of filling the tree with cheap plastic ones depresses me...how can I have the tree as I like it and keep the baby away?
