Just booked a trip to the Mayan Riviera...?

We are staying at a resort called the Sandos Playacar Beach Resort just next to Playa del Carmen. It is our first trip there and we would like some feedback on things to do and excursions we should take. Is a day trip to Cozumel worth it?
