Registration of marriage in malaysia and USA?

i am a malaysian and i am going to marry a US citizen. we are going to register our marriage in malaysia first. so, do we have to go to the USA to register our marriage too? or is it sufficient enough to update my hubbie's current marital status at the US emby in malaysia?
